Top 20 Doodle Dog Breeds & Poodle Mixes: Best Hypoallergenic, Low-Shedding Designer Dogs

20 Best Doodle Dog Breeds & Poodle Mixes

Hypoallergenic & Low-Shedding, Family Friendly Breeds

Discover the 20 best Poodle mix designer dogs that are hypoallergenic, low-shedding, and perfect for families, apartments, kids, and allergy-sensitive owners.

What Makes a Poodle Hypoallergenic?

Poodles have a unique hair-type coat instead of fur, which results in minimal shedding and significantly less dander—the primary cause of dog allergies. This is why Poodles are widely recognized as one of the best hypoallergenic dog breeds for allergy-sensitive people.

When Poodles are crossed with other breeds such as the Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, and Maltese, their low-shedding, allergy-friendly coat is often passed on to the hybrid. As a result, Poodle mix designer dogs are among the most popular choices for hypoallergenic family dogs, especially for apartment living, families with children, seniors, and first-time dog owners seeking an easy-to-maintain companion.

  1. I had a male Lhasapoo, basically Lapom-a-poo — a beautiful mix of Lhasa Apso and Pomapoo. Sadly, he left us far too soon at the age of 9.5 years. He was a lively, energetic, and confident soul, always full of spirit and personality. Though a bit stubborn and naturally reserved, his presence filled our home with warmth and movement. His coat shed more than many people expect from a Lhasapoo—only slightly less than my Pomeranian—but that never mattered to us.

One thing that truly defined him was his voice. He barked a lot—sometimes as much as, or even more than, my Pomeranian—but even that became part of who he was. Today, I remember him not for his flaws, but for his energy, loyalty, and the quiet space he left behind. He may be gone, but he will always remain a part of our family and our memories.

  2. It seems he may have inherited more traits from the Pomeranian parent compared to the other breeds in his lineage.
